Year 2 is the year in which children develop academically and become more established independent learners. This independence is encouraged in daily routines and by following the continuous provision style of learning.

Year 2 has an expansive curriculum where we will explore many different topics including:

In History, we learn about the developments in medicine through the life of Florence Nightingale. We study the events of the Great Fire of London and look for evidence to find out about the past.

In Geography we will learn about caring for our world, being global citizens and advocates for positive change, learn about our local area and life beyond our own continent.

In Design and Technology and Art, we will be creating portraits using a variety of techniques, including collage. We will investigate vehicles and then design and make our own with moving wheels and parts. We will be visiting the Milestones Museum to enhance this learning, a date will follow as soon as it has been verified. We will also be creating sculptures inspired by nature.

In Science, we will be learning how to categorise objects and know if they are alive or not. We shall also be looking at and planting our own plants in the summer term and learning about the conditions plants need to grow.

In Music we will be learning to explore sounds, pitch, beat and how to perform. We shall also be learning exciting new songs for the Year 2 Nativity.
